EVENT MANAGEMENT CASE STUDIES

Project:
XC60 Launch

Client:
Volvo Group

1/8

Volvo was looking for an agency to produce a memorable launch event for its brand new XC60.  The solution was Damn Good of course!  We produced an event with 9 "waves" of dealers and staff that visited Volvo's top secret Testing Facility - we designed the event look and feel including logo, produced the video invites (complete with actor playing Dr Bunsen Burner), designed the set, sourced the entertainment, produced highlights videos for each group - the list goes on.  We even got to test out the "City Safety" feature that automatically stops the car to prevent accidents.  The result?  98% attendees said it was the best Volvo function they had ever attended.

Project:
40th Anniversary

Client:
Axis Events on behalf of Daikin

1/6

As part of air conditioning giant Daikin's 40th Anniversary celebrations, Axis Events (who were managing the whole event program) contracted Damn Good to produce a number of elements, including the Gala Dinner.  The Dinner was the centrepiece of 3 days of celebrations, with guests coming from around the globe, including the company's senior management team (notably the "Man from Japan", CEO Masanori Togawa, himself).  In addition to the glow bar, custom made table centrepieces, and high tech AV, the entertainment included a traditional Japanese Sake ceremony, dance band, custom made video elements, and a specially choreographed fireworks display set to an 11 minute music track that we cut.  The dinner was certainly very cool (pardon the pun).

Project:
Jamie Oliver LIVE

Client:
Single Market Events

1/19

Jamie Oliver is inarguably one of the world's best known celebrity chefs, and since 2001 he has worked with the Damn Good team to bring his cheeky and enthusiastic live shows to audiences around the globe.  Ranging in size from 2500 to over 8000 people, each 2.5 hour Jamie Oliver Live show delivers the audience an unforgettable culinary experience of music, dancing, cocktails, chat, and even a little bit of cooking.  Damn Good write the scripts, design and build the sets, supply and operate the technical elements, produce video content, and direct the shows.  There have been shows all over the globe - UK, Sweden, Switzerland, US, Canada, Norway, Australia, and New Zealand just to name a few - and in 2006, the Australian Tour was a feature of the popular documentary "Jamie's Australian Diary", which has been sold to over 40 countries.

Project:
Annual Conference

Client:
Macquarie

1/16

The Macquarie Group is a global provider of banking, financial, advisory, investment and fund management services with 14, 000 staff across 28 countries.  The Damn Good team have produced hundreds of events for the Macquarie Group around the world for a number of years, and the Annual Conferences are a highlight of their calendar.  For a recent Southern Hemisphere Annual Conference, the Damn Good team worked with the internal Macquarie event team to produce a 3 day event for 1500 people.  The plenary sessions featured a custom made set (including glass gobos printed to the conference theme); there were also 12 breakout rooms running simultaneously.  The dinner on the first night was a talent night, including a performance by Idol's Paulini (who also acted as judge), and each of the 1500 guests could vote for the favourite act using their own personal keypad.  The gala dinner was themed as a "club" night, with guests having custom printed backstage passes in the form of lanyards delivered to their room.  Entertainment for the night was famous Australian band "Powderfinger", who played their only corporate show ever (which was suggested and negotiated by us).  The show had full concert lighting, sound, and 5 camera video coverage - at the end of the performance, the black drapes around the room lifted to reveal various food trucks and specialty culinary stations.  In addition to theming, staging, audio visual production, talent management, video production, and technical direction of the event,  we also provided a range of other services throughout the event, including construction of internet kiosks, management of a corporate triathalon, and back massages for the client.

Project:
14th World Conference on Lung Cancer

Client:
International Conference Services

1/6

The World Conference on Lung Cancer is the world's largest gathering of lung cancer health care professionals in the world, with 7, 500 doctors descending on Sydney for a week long program.  Damn Good was contracted with partner SMA Entertainment By Design to produce the social elements of the program, including a board dinner, the conference opening ceremony, a faculty dinner at the Sydney Town Hall for 500, and the Gala Dinner at the Sydney Exhibition Centre.  The Gala Dinner featured a completely customised theme, whereby guests were taken on a trip around Australia by Royal Flying Doctor "Doc Dundee".  Damn Good shot and edited a number of video packages to be played on the custom built 100ft x 30ft video screen, scripted the show, and directed the event (including a multi camera video coverage).  The Chairs of the conference told us that it was the best gala dinner ever - and there was a high standard to beat!
